Find your fit
Frames that look similar can feel very different to wear. The three numbers printed on many spectacle frames are a useful starting point, but do not tell you everything about fit.
Understanding 52–18–145
52 mm is the lens width. 18 mm is the bridge size. 145 mm is the nominal temple length. These measurements are usually printed on the inside of a temple.
Lens width and overall frame width
Lens width is not the same as the total width across the front of a frame. Two designs with identical lens widths can fit differently because of their bridge, hinges and frame construction.
Bridge and nose fit
A bridge should feel stable without pinching or allowing the frame to slide. The printed bridge size alone cannot guarantee how a frame fits a particular nose shape.
Temple length and comfort
Temple length helps describe the arms, but shape, adjustment, curvature and material also affect how glasses rest around your ears.
Choosing frames for stronger prescriptions
Frame size and lens shape may influence final lens thickness and weight. Smaller, suitable frames can sometimes help, but prescription suitability requires professional judgement and accurate fitting details.
Before you choose
- Compare the numbers on a comfortable pair you already own.
- Check the product's actual full dimensions and available sizes.
- Make sure bridge fit and temple comfort are considered.
- Ask for individual guidance when selecting frames for complex lenses.
Compare real frame measurements
These examples from the Vueraith catalogue show why it helps to compare all three measurements. They are frame specifications, not a recommendation for a particular face or prescription.
| Frame | Shape and material | Lens / bridge / temple |
|---|---|---|
| Vueraith Line | Rectangle acetate | 51 / 16 / 142 mm |
| Vueraith Sable | Square acetate | 53 / 18 / 145 mm |
| Vueraith Lumen | Round titanium | 50 / 19 / 145 mm |
| Vueraith Noma | Round titanium | 42 / 24 / 145 mm |
For example, Noma has a smaller lens width than Lumen but a wider bridge. The figures do not establish total front width, so one measurement should not be used as a substitute for overall fit. Check the current product page for available colours and specifications.
